Sensei Mike McCarthy

Sensei Mike McCarthy

Growing up in the Detroit area Mr. McCarthy learned a thing or two about fighting early in life. After graduating from high school at the age of 18 a young McCarthy began a new phase of his Martial Arts journey under the careful instruction of Sensei Michael Young. The year was 1979 and Mr. McCarthy  had found the system of Eugue-Ryu! Like many Eugue-Ryu students Mr. McCarthy quickly added traditional Judo to his training under Sensei Russ Conkle. Mr. McCarthy competed and enjoyed several wins in point Karate, full contact Karate and Judo championships throughout the 1980s into the early 1990s. During this time and while still a direct student of Sensei Young, Mr. McCarthy cross trained with several notable instructors including the highly respected master of traditional Okinawan fighting arts Master Seiyu Oyata.

Mr. McCarthy , even though always a student at heart, took some time off from his regular Martial Arts training to achieve a degree in engineering. Making occasional visits to the Jukido-Kai School of Martial Arts in Wapakoneta, Mr. McCarthy reentered his training in Eugue-Ryu Karate-Jutsu under the instruction of Sensei Shane Topp.

Sensei McCarthy is currently a full Instructor at Jukido-Kai teaching and training the next generation. He continues his own training among a great group of experienced Black Belts and holds the Master level rank of Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) at Jukido-Kai!
